Hawke’s Bay

NORTH ISLAND

Hawke’s Bay

Regarded as the ‘food bowl’ of New Zealand and one of the country’s most famous wine growing regions – the weekly Hawke’s Bay Farmers Market combined with a winery visit (or three…) is a must!

For families enjoying the sun you can visit the National Aquarium of New Zealand or see the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. For the thrill seeker there’s plenty to fuel your adrenaline from jetboating, hot air ballooning, surfing, caving and paragliding to sailing and windsurfing.

Following the 1931 earthquake Napier began re-building and now the city is world famous for its Art Deco buildings and celebrates its heritage each February with the Art Deco Weekend. An exhibition on the earthquake, at the Hawke’s Bay Museum and Art Gallery is a popular destination for visitors.

As well as the award winning wineries notable landmarks include Cape Kidnappers, home to the world’s largest mainland colony of gannets; Lake Waikaremoana, where the walking track is among New Zealand’s nine Great Walks; and Te Mata Peak, with its 360 degree views of Hawke’s Bay and spectacular walking tracks.

See the Gannets at Cape Kidnappers

Cape Kidnappers is home to the largest, most accessible mainland colony of gannets in the world. Visit the colony and encounter over 20,000 gannets in their natural habitat nesting, preening, dancing, swooping and diving right before your eyes.

The birds are usually in residence from September until early May, when the adult birds depart and their newly hatched chicks take flight to Australia for two years before returning to the same site once more.

Progressive Dining Experience

Wine tasting with a ‘Twist’ – experience a stunning 3 course progressive dinner at some of Hawke’s Bay’s top wineries and restaurants.

Relax and let your guide and wine expert take the strain as you and enjoy a scenic drive through the vineyards, learning about the region and its wineries as you go. Enjoy a full interactive wine tasting alongside a cheese platter; take in the breath-taking panoramic views from Te Mata Peak while enjoying a glass of bubbles as the sun sets before proceeding to a Hawkes Bay award winning winery for your entree with wine match. This is followed by your main course at a local restaurant, served with wine match.

Finish the evening with dessert & dessert wines at the country’s oldest winery then enjoy the journey back to your accommodation – fully wined and dined.
